SARASOTA, FL — Ringling University of Art and Made has hired a new executive director for its Sarasota Art Museum.
Virginia Shearer, who at present serves as director of education at the Higher Museum of Art in Atlanta, can take the helm at the Sarasota Art Museum starting up Aug. 30, according to a information release.
“I’m quite enthusiastic to return to a group that is near and pricey to my heart and for the opportunity to direct the Sarasota Artwork Museum into the long run,” Shearer said. “The museum’s foundation is strong, many thanks to the bold vision of our founders and the Museum Advisory Committee, our integration with Ringling School of Artwork and Layout, and our proficient and devoted museum staff. I am encouraged by the Sarasota Art Museum’s motivation to serving as a system for education and learning, exposure and experimentation and welcome the possibility to choose the Museum by means of this second and to ascend to even larger heights. As the Eleanor McDonald Storza director of Instruction at the Large Museum, Shearer oversees all parts of the museum’s section of schooling. She serves as 1 of six associates of the govt group who sign up for Substantial Museum Director Rand Suffolk in placing the strategic priorities for the museum.
Considering that joining the Large Museum in 2005, she has initiated, led, and participated in cross-institutional initiatives that have confirmed integral to the Museum’s upcoming, including tasks such as the High’s summer season piazza activation fee sequence, the Greene Family members Understanding Gallery and a sequence of well-known exhibitions.
She previously served as Tampa Museum of Art’s deputy director for training and community programs and as director of education at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art.
Shearer holds a bachelor of arts in humanities from Florida State University and a master of arts in training in museum schooling from The George Washington College.
She was chosen as a participant in the Getty Leadership Institute plan “Museum Leaders: The Following Technology” in 2012 as perfectly as the Getty’s Government Education Method for Museum Leaders in 2014 and returned to the system as a mentor in 2016. Shearer also served as the Southeastern regional director for the Museum Schooling Division of Nationwide Arts Instruction Association from 2004 to 2006.
