Retiring Palm Beach County principal displays on 40-year occupation, COVID-19 pandemic

PALM Beach front COUNTY, Fla. — Palm Beach County college students and academics have finally manufactured it. Friday, June 18 marks the previous day of faculty for what has been a challenging and unprecedented 2020/21 educational calendar year.

But at Park Vista Local community Higher University in west Boynton Beach, Principal Reggie Myers may not be all set for the ultimate bell.

Myers is retiring just after 40 many years with the University District of Palm Seaside County.

Wanting back at his 1st Park Vista Neighborhood High University yearbook from 13 many years in the past, Myers couldn’t enable but replicate on his longstanding career in Palm Beach County faculties.

“I have experienced 40 great many years in my vocation,” Myers reported. “I do not assume you will find at any time been a day, in reality, I know there is never been a day in my occupation that I did not want to get up and go to work.”

“I can tell you I grew so much,” Myers stated. “I often assumed I was productive in my job. But I can explain to you I was even more efficient these previous 16 months mainly because I had to do points in a different way to proceed to serve our young ones.”

The longtime college chief mentioned the pandemic has pressured lecturers to discover imaginative ways to teach kids.

“I basically consider that is some of the positives that’s coming out of this,” Myers stated. “That academics and directors are going to choose those people expertise and use them to inspire, to inspire, and to train our learners. And I imagine we are likely to be greater simply because of this practical experience.”

Myers explained it can be bittersweet to be strolling absent as factors are commencing to return to typical.

“I’m so energized about next yr and I’m not even likely to be below,” Myers claimed. “I just might get up and get dressed and have no position to go!”

Myers commenced his profession with the College District of Palm Seashore County as a physical education and learning teacher at Pine Grove Elementary Faculty.

From there, he went to Coral Sunset Elementary School as the assistant principal in 1988, followed by Del Prado Elementary School.

Myers’ initial principal task arrived in 1994 at Sandpiper Shores Elementary Faculty in Boca Raton, where by he stayed right up until 2000.

His future stop took him to the Center Faculty of Decision Alternative College, the place he served as principal from 2000 to 2003, adopted by principal of John I. Myers, a 2020 Principal of the Calendar year nominee, mentioned he is been flooded with emotions these past several months, presiding about his past graduation and other times together the way.

“I am going to skip the tutorial facet of it, the athletic side of it, the undertaking arts,” Myers mentioned. “My journey has been a blessing mainly because of the folks I met together the way.”


Myers hopes his legacy is just one all about what is most effective for the children.

“I hope that I have been a superior employee,” Myers said. “I hope that I have modeled what I talked about each individual and every day, the great importance of treating people the way you want to be dealt with. And I hope I’ve represented the group that I’ve served, that I’ve carried out the get the job done that they’ve predicted of me.”

Myers mentioned he is remaining in city and programs to do volunteer do the job in the community and will go on to advocate for Palm Beach front County kids.

Myers is a single of about a dozen principals in the School District of Palm Seashore County who are retiring this calendar year. The many others are:
